These mechanics are highly trained and State certified to ensure that Federal and PennDOT FMCSA, EPA, DEP and NFPA regulations are adhered to. They are responsible for the mechanical up-keep of approximately 450 pieces of equipment, from small chain saws to the larger, heavy, licensed equipment such as backhoes and dump trucks, including, but not limited to, fire apparatus, police vehicles and ambulances, totaling approximately 110 Township vehicles. They maintain the emergency generator system for Good Hope and Sporting Hill Stations and the Public Works Building. They also ensure golf carts are in good working order for Armitage Golf Club. When the scheduled workload warrants, they are able to call upon the talented pool of Public Works personnel to help assist them with various mechanical issues.

Staff also accepts delivery of new vehicles and prepares them for use by staff and assists with the preparation of equipment and vehicles offered for sale at the Council of Governments' annual auction.

The mechanics have ASE, EVTCC, PA State Inspection/Emission testing certifications and attend seminars and classes in order to keep abreast of new technology. The Superintendent also provides in-house CDL training for Department employees.
