Prescription Drugs/Med Return
The Police Department has modified its drug take back service. Previously, residents could drop off unwanted or unused drugs or medications at our take-back box located in the police lobby. Due to the COVID19 pandemic, the police lobby remains closed however in a effort to continue to support our community with valued services, our Drug Take-Back program is being offered again with a new process.Residents will be able to drop off their unwanted or unused medications each Thursday between the hours of 9:30am and 11:00 am.
Residents may surrender these medications by:
1. Coming to the Police Entrance and reading the sign on the door.
2. While remaining outside, call 717-761-2609. A staff member will answer and meet you outside.
3. The staff member will come outside and direct you to drop your medications in a bag held by the staff member.
4. The staff member will then take your medications inside and dispose of them according to Department policy.
Residents are advised to NOT enter the building for the purposes of surrendering medications. Residents appearing inside the building will be directed to go outside and follow the procedures listed above (explained on the sign).
The program may be expanded to include more dates and times based on demand. This notice will be updated with any expansion of dates and times.
Township Police Accepting Unused Prescriptions
Township residents can dispose of out-of-date and unused prescriptions and over-the-counter medicines in a special container, called “Med Return,” that has been installed in the lobby of the Township Police Station at 230 S. Sporting Hill Road. Users are asked to either remove all prescription medication labels or place all the pills in a plastic ziploc bag.
Unfortunately, we cannot accept liquids or syringes.
The Police Department lobby will be available for drop-off from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday.
What can be placed in the Med Return container?
Prescriptions, over-the-counter medicines, prescription patches, ointments, vitamins, sample medicines and pet medicines.

Medical Waste Disposal Guidelines:
Residents are reminded that household medical waste, including needles, can be placed in the regular trash as long as proper procedures are followed. All needles must be capped and/or placed in a secure container, such as a milk jug or coffee can, etc. The entire container can then be disposed of in the trash.
