Image of NewspaperThe Board of Commissioners adopted a 2019 budget that, for the 42nd straight year, calls for no real estate tax increase.  Continuing business and residential development in the Township along with new jobs is a major factor in keeping taxes unchanged.  Township property owners will continue to pay one of the lowest real estate tax millage rates in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, 0.156 mills ($15.60 per year per $100,000 assessed property value).
The $15,234,820 General Fund operating expense will allow the Township to continue to provide a myriad of services to the residents and business owners.  The 2019 budget reflects necessary expenditures and realistic estimates for revenue.
The major General Fund revenue source in 2019 will again be the Earned Income Tax which is expected to generate $5,500,000.  Other major revenue sources are the Local Services Tax which is estimated to generate $985,000 and the Real Estate Tax which is estimated at $560,000.
Major expenditures include $5,254,295 for Police, EMS and support of the Hampden Township Volunteer Fire Company.  $3,139,875 is allocated to address the operating costs of the Public Works Department which oversees road, facility, engineering and land development review and maintenance of parks along with many other essential functions.  $3,300,000 will also be transferred to the Capital Improvement Fund to offset major projects, such as street resurfacing, and purchases of other capital items.  The remaining General Fund budget will cover costs associated with the operations of other departments and Township related operations to include Administration, Community Development, Finance and Recreation.
Sanitary sewer, stormwater and solid waste/recycling rates will remain unchanged in 2019 as well.
