NEXT PHASE OF $1.2 MILLION WATER LINE UPGRADE IN HAMPDEN TOWNSHIP SHIFTING TO OVERNIGHT WORK, SAYS PENNSYLVANIA AMERICAN WATER

HERSHEY, Pa. (October 25, 2018) – Pennsylvania American Water today announced that crews will transition to overnight construction in Hampden Township for phase two of its approximately $1.2 million water main replacement project. When completed, the upgrade will improve service reliability for customers and increase flows for fire protection by replacing aging pipe dating back to the 1950s.

Construction began in late September to install nearly 4,300 feet of new 12-inch ductile iron pipe along Sporting Hill Road between Carlisle Pike and East Trindle Road. The project’s first phase took place in areas without traffic impact, but the next phase calls for traffic restrictions along the highly traveled Sporting Hill Road.

“We are shifting to overnight construction to help alleviate the traffic impact and inconvenience, but we are also asking motorists to use alternate routes during construction hours and provide extra time and caution when traveling near the work zone,” said Pennsylvania American Water Senior Manager of Operations Joseph Woodward.

To minimize traffic disruptions, construction is scheduled for overnight from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. between Sunday nights and Thursday mornings, starting Sunday, October 28. Pennsylvania American Water expects to complete new main installation, testing and disinfection, and connecting customers’ service lines to the new main by mid-December, weather permitting. Final paving restoration is scheduled for May 2019.
