Stormwater Meeting Calendar

Over the past year, the Board of Commissioners has been working with the Sewer Authority to address stormwater initiatives. In December of 2013, the Sewer Authority, with support from the Commissioners, modified its articles of incorporation to take responsibility for the proper planning, funding, design, implementation and maintenance of stormwater infrastructure in the Township.

What is stormwater? Stormwater includes all of the surface flow, or runoff, from rain and snow melt events. The runoff, which may contain pollutants, flows from land and streets to drainage collection systems, such as curb and yard inlets, pipes, ditches, culverts, swales and retention/detention facilities - and at times this infrastructure is not sufficient to manage the significant amounts of flow coming into the system.

What is stormwater management? Stormwater management is a community-wide service to effectively manage the quantity and quality of stormwater runoff and to ensure that a plan is developed to design, build and maintain sufficient stormwater infrastructure. Township residents and businesses benefit greatly from properly operated and maintained stormwater and drainage infrastructure. Such infrastructure ensures public streets have minimum flooding problems and promotes healthy public streams and ponds. It also benefits all property owners because of reduced flooding and increased property values. Other benefits to property owners may include site sustainability, reduced drainage issues and good neighbor/positive public relations.

The Hampden Township Sewer Authority and Board of Commissioners are currently evaluating the Townships Stormwater Management Program. Additional information can be found on the Township's Stormwater webpages.
