Stormwater Authority

In December 2013 the Hampden Township Sewer Authority amended its Articles of Incorporation to also operate as a municipal stormwater authority. As such the Authority's responsibilities have been expanded to oversee the management of the Townships storm sewer system to ensure that all stormwater issues are addressed including operation, maintenance, planning, and compliance with applicable permit requirements.

Hampden Township is required to comply with U.S. EPA's National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) program to control the discharge of pollutants into waters of the United States from point sources it manages such as pipes or man-made ditches. As a Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4), Hampden Township is required by Section 2.g. of its permit to

"… maintain adequate funding and staffing to implement and manage all provisions of … (its) Stormwater Management Program." Therefore, funding of a Stormwater Management Program is one of the Authority's Primary concerns.

Hampden Township is fully committed to meeting the regulatory requirements of its MS4 permit and protecting water quality. For more details on our stormwater program and ways that you can be a good steward of the natural resources we all share, please follow the links below.
