Commendation - Homicide Investigation

At the February 24, 2022 Board of Commissioners meeting, members of the Police Department's Criminal Investigation Division received a Commendation for their work on a homicide investigation from 2020.

Their Commendation Read:

"On September 30, 2020, members of the Patrol Unit were dispatched to a possible homicide in the Admirals Quay development in Hampden Township, Cumberland County. Upon arrival they discovered the victim, deceased from multiple gunshot wounds.  There were no eye witnesses nor any initial suspects to the crime.

Through an extensive investigative effort, members of the Department’s Criminal Investigation Division identified two potential suspects in the crime and quickly developed sufficient probable cause to take Crystal Lee Dupert and Alan Daniel Williams, both of Mechanicsburg,  into custody and charged them with Criminal Homicide in the death of the victim.

The members of the Criminal Investigation Division collectively responded to the scene, worked with patrol unit members to identify those responsible for this heinous crime and brought them to justice within twenty-four hours of the crime being committed.  Their hard work, self-sacrifice and team approach removed two dangerous people from the streets and resulted in two guilty pleas by the defendants.

From the initial response, through the investigative stages and the overall management of the scene and case strategy, Lieutenant Richard Nulty, Detective Thomas Burfeind, Detective Mary Hayden and Detective Robert Higgins displayed true professionalism and dedication to their duty in seeking justice for the victim and his family."
