Employee Application


Hampden Parks and Recreation employs roughly 80 - 100 seasonal employees per summer. A detailed job description can be obtained by contacting the Recreation Department. Here is a breakdown of what is offered:

Summer Camp

A recreation camp for children who finished Kindergarten through 5th grade in the most recent school year.

  • Summer Camp Director-Detailed description available upon request.
  • Summer Camp Asst. Director-Detailed description available upon request.
  • Summer Camp Senior Counselor-Provide assistance in supervising a variety of safe and enjoyable activities for elementary school aged children, as well as, perform basic administrative duties under the supervision of the Summer Camp Director. Completion of high school is a requirement.
  • Summer Camp Counselor-Plan, implement and direct activities for Summer Camp participants under the supervision of the Summer Camp Director. Completion of high school is a requirement.
  • ​Summer Camp Counselor-In-Training (CIT)​-Aids Summer Camp staff to provide safe and enjoyable activities for children Kindergarten-5th grade. This is a volunteer position for those who have completed 9th grade and attended the Summer Camp program.

Adventure Camp

A recreation camp for youth who finished 5th grade through 8th grade in the most recent school year.

  • Adventure Camp Director-Detailed description available upon request.
  • Adventure Camp Senior Counselor-Provide assistance in supervising a variety of safe and enjoyable activities for middle school aged children under the supervision of the Adventure Camp Director.
  • Adventure Camp Counselor-Plan, implement and direct a variety of activities for Adventure Camp participants under the supervision of the Adventure Camp Director. Completion of high school is a requirement.

Playground Program

A 3 hour playground program for children ages 3 - 11.

  • Playground Coordinator-Detailed description available upon request.
  • Playground Site Supervisor-Detailed description available upon request.
  • Playground Instructor-Provide a safe and enjoyable variety of activities for children 3-11 years of age. Completion of high school is a requirement.

Hampden Pool

  • Assistant Manager-Detailed description available upon request.
  • Admission Desk-Provide a system of admission control at the swimming pool. Completion of high school is a requirement.
  • Head Lifeguard-Assist in responsibility for managing the operation of the swimming pool and staff. Will assume the duties of the Assistant Manager in his/her absence. Completion of high school is a requirement.
  • Lifeguard-Insure the safety of the pool patrons (accident prevention in the water and on the deck). Also, provide rescue and care of any accident victims. Must be 15 years of age or older.
  • Maintenance-Provide assistance with a high-level maintenance program for the swimming pool. Must be 18 years of age or older.

Misc

  • Office Assistant-Provide office assistance to the Recreation Department staff. Completion of high school is a requirement.
  • Bus Driver-Provide safe and timely transportation for every individual on the driver's assigned bus. Prior experience required.
