Hampden Township Veterans Recognition Committee

“Hampden Township Supports Our Military Troops”
Welcome to the Home of the Hampden Township Veterans Committee! Hampden Township has a long and close association to our nation's defense -- including the site of the Civil War "Battle of Sporting Hill." The Township is home the U.S. Naval Supply Systems Command (Navy Depot) as well as the state headquarters of the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) and local Veterans of Foreign Wars. Cumberland County hosts the Army War College, the Army Heritage and Education Center (AHEC), and the New Cumberland Army Depot.
At the U.S.-France Ceremony Commemorating the 40th Anniversary of the Normandy Invasion, President Ronald Reagan said -- "We will always remember. We will always be proud. We will always be prepared, so we may always be free."
It is with these words in mind that Hampden Township embarks on a journey to establish a memorial to remember those that fought for our freedom.
The purpose of the Committee is to make recommendations and provide advice to the Hampden Township Board of Commissioners for purposes of recognizing veterans in Hampden Township, providing and increasing public awareness of Hampden Township veterans, making recommendations for the establishment of a veterans memorial, assisting in raising funds to finance those recommendations that are approved by the Commissioners and engaging in any and all other activities and tasks as the Commissioners may decide from time to time relating to the purpose of veteran recognition.
