Township Police Accepting Unused Prescriptions
Township residents can dispose of out-of-date and unused prescriptions and over-the-counter medicines in a special container, called “Med Return,” that has been installed in the lobby of the Township Police Station at 230 S. Sporting Hill Road. Users are asked to either remove all prescription medication labels or place all the pills in a plastic ziploc bag.
The Police Department lobby will be available for drop-off from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday.
Cumberland County DA installs 18 PA Med Return Boxes:
What can be placed in the Med Return container?
Prescriptions, over-the-counter medicines, prescription patches, ointments, vitamins, sample medicines and pet medicines.
Unfortunately, we cannot accept liquids or syringes.
Please place all pills into a Ziploc plastic bag before placing in the Med Return container. It’s not necessary to keep the pills in the bottle and this will also allow for additional space.
** The Med Return container was purchased with funds donated by the VFW Post in Hampden Twp.
Medical Waste Disposal Guidelines:
Residents are reminded that household medical waste, including needles, can be placed in the regular trash as long as proper procedures are followed. All needles must be capped and/or placed in a secure container, such as a milk jug or coffee can, etc. The entire container can then be disposed of in the trash.
