    NOTICE

    NOTICE is hereby given that Civil Service examinations will be conducted to determine the eligibility of applicants for the position of Police Officer, Department of Police, Hampden Township , Cumberland County, Pennsylvania, on Saturday, March 6, 2010, beginning at 9:00 a.m., prevailing time, in the John J. Shumaker Public Safety Center at the Harrisburg Area Community College.  

    Additional examinations, following successful completion of the written and physical agility examinations, will include an oral examination and, for those required to attend the academy, Nelson Denny testing.   Applicants conditionally appointed will be required to submit to subsequent medical and psychological appraisals to determine if minimum psychological and medical requirements for police work are met.  

    Applicants must be at least 21 years of age, a citizen of the United States and possess a high school diploma or equivalent at the time of application.   Each applicant shall be medically fit for the performance of the duties of a Police Officer and licensed to operate a motor vehicle in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania .  

    Starting salary will be determined by 2006 Collective Bargaining Agreement, currently at $18.29 per hour for a cadet or $22.86 per hour for a first-year patrol officer.   Medical insurance coverage, including prescription drug coverage is provided.   Holidays, vacation and sick leave days, dental, vision, life and disability insurance and pension plan participation will be provided after six months employment  

    If you desire to claim Veterans' Preference in Accordance with 51 Pa. C.S., Section 7103, please submit documentation at the time of application, preferably a Department of Defense Form 214, to substantiate service during armed conflict since July 27, 1953 .  

    Applications are available at the Hampden Township Municipal Building Administrative Office or the Hampden Township Police Department , 230 S. Sporting Hill Road , Mechanicsburg , PA   17050 .   Applications must be filed at the Administrative Office on or before 4:30 p.m. on Friday, February 19, 2010 .   A $45.00 filing fee (check made payable to Hampden Township ) must accompany the application.
