    CUMBERLAND COUNTY , PENNSYLVANIA

     

    RESOLUTION NO. 10-16

     

    A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS OF HAMPDEN TOWNSHIP ESTABLISHING A VETERANS RECOGNITION COMMITTEE.

    WHEREAS, the service of veterans in all branches of the United States military has been vital to the defense of our Nation and the preservation of our freedom and liberty; and

    WHEREAS, the unselfish contributions and sacrifice made by veterans should not be forgotten with the passage of time; and

    WHEREAS, the Hampden Township Board of Commissioners desires to recognize the important contributions that Hampden Township veterans have made by the establishment of a committee organized and existing consistent with the power and authority specified herein.  

    NOW THEREFORE, it is hereby RESOLVED by the Board of Township Commissioners of Hampden Township as follows:

    1.   Creation of Committee .

           The Board of Commissioners hereby establishes a committee known and identified as the Veterans Recognition Committee (the "Committee").

    2.   Purpose of the Committee .

          The purpose of the Committee shall be to make recommendations and   provide advice to the Hampden Township Board of Commissioners (the "Commissioners") for purposes of recognizing veterans in Hampden Township , providing and increasing public awareness of Hampden Township veterans, making recommendations for the establishment of a veterans memorial, assisting in raising funds to finance those recommendations that are approved by the Commissioners and engaging in any and all other activities and tasks as the Commissioners may decide from time to time relating to the purpose of veteran recognition.

    3.   Composition of the Committee .

          The Committee shall consist of seven (7) members appointed by the Commissioners with each member serving a five-year term.   One member is to be recommended for appointment by the then commander of the Mechanicsburg NAVICP Naval Depot.   The Commissioners reserve the right to fill any vacancy that may occur in the Committee.     The Committee shall elect a Chairman, Vice Chairman and recording Secretary.  

    4.   Meetings of the Committee .

          The Committee shall meet at least one time every other month and more frequently as the Committee shall decide.   Notice of all meetings of the Committee shall be advertised as required by the Sunshine Act and minutes of the Committee's meetings shall be prepared and maintained.

           The Chairman shall preside at all meetings of the Committee and in his or her absence, the Vice Chairman.   In the absence of both the Chairman and Vice Chairman, a temporary chairman shall be appointed by the Committee.

           A quorum of the Committee shall consist of a majority of the members.

    5.   Duration of the Committee's Existence .

          The Committee shall terminate five (5) years from the date of this Resolution unless extended by further Resolution of the Commissioners.  

    RESOLVED this 29th day of April, 2010 in public session duly assembled.
