    Wastewater Division

    4202 Roth Lane

    Mechanicsburg, PA  17050

The wastewater system is owned by the Hampden Township Sewer Authority but operated and maintained by Hampden Township. The system consists of 155 miles of collection lines, 23 pumping station facilities, force mains and one wastewater plant.

Personnel within the Wastewater Division are skilled in many trades, which enables the majority of the maintenance and repairs to the system to be performed by staff, which provides cost savings to the residents of Hampden Township.

The Roth Lane Plant with a hydraulic capacity of 4.65 MGD opened in June of 1982.   Due to the closing of the Pinebrook Plant and new Chesapeake Bay requirements for effluent parameters, the plant is going through an upgrade for biological nutrient removal and will have a hydraulic design capacity of 6.78 MGD when completed.

The treatment processes include flow metering, coarse material and grit removal, pumping and aerobic suspended growth biological treatment, clarification and UV disinfection. The bio-solids, a by-product of the treatment process, are dewatered and land applied to agricultural land permitted by the Pennsylvania Division of Environmental Protection.
