EMPLOYMENT
POLICE OFFICER
NOTICE is hereby given that Civil Service written examinations and
physical agility testing will be conducted to determine the eligibility
of applicants for the position of Police Officer, Department of Police,
Hampden Township, Cumberland County, Pennsylvania, on Saturday, December
3, 2011 beginning at 8:00 a.m., prevailing time, in the John J.
Shumaker Public Safety Center at the Harrisburg Area Community College.
Following successful completion of the written examination and
physical agility test, an oral examination will be conducted the week of
January 2, 2012, and, any applicant or applicants conditionally
appointed will be required to submit to subsequent medical and
psychological appraisals to determine if minimum psychological and
medical requirements for police work are met. In addition, any
applicant or applicants conditionalyl appointed must pass a background
investigation and a polygraph examination.
Applicants must be at least 21 years of age, a citizen of the United States and possess a high school diploma or equivalent at the time of application. Act 120 Certification or the equivalent is a condition of employment. Pre-service applicants may submit an application and provide transcripts and test scores as proof of eligibility for certification. Out of state applicants must meet the qualifications for Pennsylvania certification as outlined on the MPOETC website. Each applicant shall be medically fit for the performance of the duties of a Police Officer and licensed to operate a motor vehicle in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
Starting salary will be determined by 2010 Collective Bargaining Agreement, currently at $23.66 per hour for a first year Police Officer. Medical insurance coverage, including prescription drug coverage is provided. Holidays, vacation and sick leave days, dental, vision, life and disability insurance and pension plan participation will be provided after six months employment. Any successful candidate will be subject to a probationary period of employment.

C.S., Section 7103, please submit documentation at the time of application, preferably a Department of Defense Form 214, to substantiate service during armed conflict since July 27, 1953. A physician's certification of fitness to participate in the physical agility testing must be submitted at the time of application on form provided.

A $45.00 filing fee (check made payable to Hampden Township) must accompany the application.
