    COMMUNITY

    POLICING

       Bicycle Registration:

The Police Department offers bicycle registration for all residents of Hampden Township.  The department maintains records of all registrations that include information on the registered owner and specific information on the registered bicycle.  If a bicycle is recovered as a result of a theft, it is easier to return the bicycle to the proper owner if the bicycle is registered.

      Child Identification Kits:

In an effort to keep our children safe the Hampden Township Police Department has joined with several civic groups, churches and businesses to offer child fingerprinting. Children can be fingerprinted and the fingerprint cards are given to the parents for safekeeping.   For more information on fingerprinting events please contact the Department at 761-2609.

To keep our children safe in motor vehicles, the Hampden Township Police Department offers free child safety seat inspections. The inspections are scheduled by appointment only. A certified technician will demonstrate proper harnessing and installation techniques, and make sure you know how to install the child safety seat in your vehicle.   To make an appointment please contact Sgt Steve Shissler at 761-2609. For more information on Child Safety Seats click on the photo above.

     Child Safety Talks:

The Office Phil program is presented once a year by Creative Safety Products out of Carnegie , PA. An animator accompanies a Hampden Township Police Officer to each of our elementary schools. With the use of magic, puppets and student participation the animator covers various problems and their solutions in a fun way that children understand. The children have a great time and are given a workbook to take home to share with their family.

    Civic Association Meetings:

The Hampden Twp. Police Department works closely with the various civic associations in the township. Officers are available for civic association meetings to talk about crime prevention, safety and any other concerns of the residents. For more information on scheduling an Officer for your meeting, contact Sgt Steve Shissler at 761-2609.

    Crime Prevention:

Crime Prevention is nothing more than minimizing the opportunity for a "Crime" to occur.  Protecting your property and dwelling is YOUR PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY.

The Hampden Township Police Department can assist the residents with their preventive measures with information on doors, locks, windows, and glass.  We also provide information on alarms, exterior design (lighting, landscaping, shrubbery, etc.) and "common sense" tips on protecting your residence and its' property.

The Police Department has three certified officers in Crime Prevention.  Call, or stop by and learn all about Neighborhood Watch and Operation Identification.

    Gun Locks:

In partnership with Project ChildSafe, the Department is offering free firearm safety kits to township residents.   The kits include a cable style gunlock and a firearm safety brochure. The safety kits are available at the police station. For more information about Project ChildSafe click on the link above.

     Youth Organization Meetings:

Youth Organizations, such as the Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts, Brownie Scouts, etc., can schedule visits to the Hampden Township Police Department to take a brief tour of the operations of the department, a viewing of a police cruiser, and have an officer provide a Safety Talk to the visiting group.  Please call in advance to schedule a meeting.
